Singer-songwriter sensation G.E.M has dropped her newest releases “Double Me” and the cantonese Version “Double You” at the same time. The two songs are written as conversation-style ballads the call and answer to each other. “Double You” is also the theme song for TVB drama “Flying Tiger III”. This is G.E.M’s first cantaonese release in three years, “I wanted to songs to relate to each other,” G.E.M said, regarding her newest creations, “The Cantonese version is about the two sides of ‘you’, one I love and one I hate. While the Chinese version is about two sides of ‘me’, one that does not know whether to leave or keep going. The Cantonese version was challenging as it’s been three years since I’ve written in Cantonese.”
The popular “Flying Tiger” is on its third instalment, it’s popularity skyrocketing once having invited G.E.M to write and sing the theme song. G.E.M also admitted to being a fan of the series, “The drama is amazing, so fast-paced and exciting.” Her songs convey that some decisions are not just black or white, but a complex of emotions. So she was inspired by the inner conflicts we are encounter in everyday life.
The arrangement, she wanted to match the energy of the drama series while maintaining her unique style and spent some effort trying to find the perfect balance. “We went through several versions just on the intro alone, my producer almost went crazy!” She jokingly said.
