Final Fantasy XIV: An Anime-Style Tournament Arc

Get a Sneak Peek at the Upcoming Raid Series

With just over a month until the highly anticipated Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV releases in early access, Square Enix has started to unveil some of the exciting new content and features that players can look forward to. While the studio is keeping the main story under wraps to preserve the element of surprise, they have shared tantalizing details about the expansion’s raid series, field operations, and other new experiences.

One of the highlights is the new eight-person raid called The Arcadion, which appears to have a bit of an “anime tournament arc” feel to it. According to the official website, “The realm’s greatest fighters pit fist against fist and magick against magick, putting their lives on the line as crowds howl and clamor, each clash more visceral than the last.” This sounds like a refreshing change of pace from the more serious, lore-heavy raids of the past two expansions.

In addition to the Arcadion raid, Dawntrail will also feature the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series, which is meant to pay homage to Final Fantasy XI. For those unfamiliar, alliance raids allow up to 24 players to team up and take on challenging encounters.

Another major piece of new content is the Shades’ Triangle field operations, which appears to be a large-scale instanced zone similar to the Bozjan Southern Front from Shadowbringers. The website describes it as a “Bermuda Triangle-like location” where “men and vessels alike have been lost to its allure, never to be seen again.” This sounds like it could incorporate naval elements, fitting the tropical vacation theme of Dawntrail.

Beyond these headline features, the website also provides a brief description of the new Beastmaster limited job and previously shown dungeons. Fans of the Eden raid series from Shadowbringers will also be eager to learn more about the new Ultimate raid, Futures Rewritten, which promises to build upon that beloved content.
