Updates on some of their biggest Games
Ubisoft Forward 2023 has come to an end, and it showcased some of the biggest franchises that the publisher has planned for the rest of 2023 and beyond. The event included updates on highly anticipated games such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars: Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
In addition to these titles, Ubisoft also provided updates on some of its live-service games, including closed beta registrations for Skull and Bones, The Division Resurgence, and xDefiant.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, first revealed some time ago, was the event’s highlight, offering an action-packed look at its gameplay. The game’s creator, James Cameron, also appeared to talk about the new environments that can be explored and the story that will co-exist with the events of the Avatar films. The game’s release date was the big news, as Ubisoft plans to launch Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on December 7.
Ubisoft also showed off an extended gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Outlaws, an open-world game set in the Outer Rim of the Star Wars universe. The game puts players in the shoes of Kay Vess, an opportunistic thief who becomes the most wanted outlaw in the galaxy and has to pull off the greatest heist of all time if she wants to escape the Galactic Empire and its Imperial army. The trailer showcased third-person action, high-speed chases, and space combat. Star Wars Outlaws will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2024.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, with a confirmed release date of October 12, was also featured in a new trailer. The game follows Basim’s story and his induction into the Hidden Ones. The trailer showcased stealth gameplay, opportunistic combat, and an escape from Baghdad’s guards that ended with blending into a crowd to make a clean getaway.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was revealed at Summer Game Fest, was also featured. This return to the franchise’s 2D roots mixes brutal combos with platforming sections requiring precise control. The return of time-manipulating powers, which can be used across the game, was also showcased.
Ubisoft also provided updates for some of its live-service games. The Division Resurgence, a free-to-play mobile spin-off of the leading The Division game, is gearing up for launch soon, with a CG trailer showcasing plenty of action and tense missions against other players in quarantined dark zones. Registrations for the regional beta are now open, which begins on June 13. Additionally, xDefiant, Ubisoft’s high-octane PvP shooter, is launching later this summer, with an open beta stress test from June 21-23.
Lastly, the event showcased The Crew Motorfest, which will be released on September 14. This third entry in The Crew series is set on the island of O’ahu within the Hawaiian archipelago. It adopts a festival atmosphere again, with some tropical environments showcased in the trailer. Far Cry fans won’t have long to wait for the animated spin-off, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, as it will be coming to Netflix in the fall.
Overall, Ubisoft Forward 2023 provided a glimpse into what the publisher has planned for the future, with plenty of exciting titles to look forward to.
