Today we learned the heartbreaking news that our friend Janette Slack passed away on Sunday, November 13.
Whenever we met Janette, she was always bubbly and bright, and her infectious smile was impossible to resist. Many tributes appearing now in media across the industry and from her close friends will no doubt mention her sheer joy for life, Love for electronic dance music and her impossible-to-resist smile.
Janette was well-known throughout the industry, having held residencies in clubs from London across S.E. Asia and Hong Kong. Wherever she went, whether for work or leisure, the same words would be used over and over by those who met her, joyful, infectious with her attitude for life, energetic, fun, full of life and the most amazing laugh.
Janette was an acclaimed International DJ winning awards such as the Armada European DJ competition and London, Denon’s DJousts and a regular guest on the BBC. She worked with fellow artists such as Javone Prince, Fabian, and Warriors. Her love for electronic music and how it was developing was abundantly clear in the sheer joy she took in teaching her craft to others.
” She was always so supportive of everything I did. She called me an amazing human being, and I called her that back. Her eyes lit up when she talked about the kids she was teaching. Her laugh, she had a brilliant laugh. She was always so keen to explore how to take her music further. I felt in awe that she was my friend.” said Chris B, a promoter and friend who worked with Janette in Hong Kong.
Rest in peace, Janette. We will miss you, so very much.
