Bring it back live
It might sound funny coming from me, but there’s nothing like Live Music, so what are we waiting for? There are many different opinions on how quickly it should come back – and that’s not what this piece is about. It is about how much Music got us through the pandemic and how it will bring us out of the pandemic with a new thirst for life. For that to happen, it needs to be live. Why live? Because there is nothing in the world like feeling the bass reverberate through you as the drummer plays off the beat of the bass and the club begins to bounce.
That feeling of being in a shared experience feeling alive, feeling the blood pumping through your veins, sending the endorphins flying around the body and nature’s very own feel-good formula kicks in, and life seems more vibrant and full of possibility. So while this post may not be about what’s holding back musicians from taking to the stage again (no matter how unfair that is) so they can earn a living, it is about the feel-good factor that live Music provides. So if you are one of the lucky ones living in a city where live Music is back on the menu, go out tonight and see a band and remember it wasn’t that long ago you were dreaming of singing along live with the band. For those of us still waiting, hang in there, it’s coming.
So to quote Oasis, “you gotta roll with it “

How do I let go?
Why am I holding on so hard – when all around me say move on, let it go, life is too short.
I’ve been listening to the playlist I made for Gabriella, and in her song “who knew,” Pink sings “, And I won’t forget you, my friend, what happened ?. It’s been going round and round my head – well, that and James Blunt singing “I don’t know what to do because I will never be with you” it’s like having your heart repeatedly torn from your chest – except it’s me that’s doing it. Am I mad to keep trying to work out what happened? I need to stop trying to see her and understand why the communication just stopped -I’m sure it wasn’t her; I bet it was her family that broke it all off. Suddenly I’m blocked on her phone, email, social media..nothing, it’s like she vanished -except I know where she is – still, I don’t understand why she hasn’t tried to reach out, somehow…
I wondered why musicians wrote so many songs about being heartbroken and losing love. Now I think they do it hoping to forget.
