The opening bars made me think of an early Sheryl Crow even before Sloan started to sing, and the opening vibe made me of Crow’s track “If it makes you happy” at least the chorus of that particular song. But as is obvious to anyone who listens to both these singers Sloan very much has her own style and sound.I liked the song and wanted it to be longer, it feels almost as if there is more to the song than the 3.12 min track and thats a good thing as it makes me want to hear the rest of the Album

Sloan sings about how life changes between being wide eyed at 17 and how things change as life delivers challenges and  can leave us feeling cynical. I wanted to hear more of the story in the song and was hoping it would develop further. Don’t egt me wrong I liek this track the atmospheric guitar adds depth and creates a strong sense of connection with Sloan. It’s more that i think Sloan has the talent to be a really good story teller and Im looking forward to  more from her as her career develops.

Labels will send a promotional blurb with songs they are hoping we will select for air play and share with you ,the listener. tpically we dont pay too much attention as in fairness its hard to come up with something original for every new song the promotional team are trying to make stand out from the crowd. However  they did write this  when desrbing her new Album Me Again from which this single comes as  ” Showcasing a more striped -down soundscape, the album is a call-back to the music she used to make when it was just for her  ”

Rick Ruben, the legendary producer and co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and whose worked with stars from the worlds of Hip Hop, Alt rock, heavy metal and country, so it’s fair to say a fairly wide spectrum, is credited as saying that Artists should create for themselves the music they want to hear, because thats when they produce their best work. I may have fumbled that ‘quote’ but the gist is there and from talking to musicians its true that many do express finding a freedom in their work and a desire to strip things down  when they concentrate on making the music they wanted to hear when they were dreaming of about ‘making it’ as a musician. So maybe the label is onto something when they wrote this.

You can catch a sample of  the track below, and the full song by tuning in to the station. I look forward to hearing the rest of the Album – Me Again – to see what else Sloan has in store for us. As always if you don’t agree, with our thinking, we always want to hear from you, so drop us a line in the comments below.
