Olivia Rodrigo Hints at Anniversary Surprise
As the five-year anniversary of her breakout single, “Drivers License,” approaches, Olivia Rodrigo appears to be teasing something special for her fans.
Website Revamp and Cryptic Submission Form
On January 5, the pop star revamped her website with a notable change. Rather than her usual page, Rodrigo’s site now features a faux driver’s license renewal application from the “Department of Driving Home 2 U.” This playful addition invites fans to submit their emails for future updates, creating a sense of anticipation.
Countdown to January 8
An intriguing detail on the website is the “appointment information” section, which indicates that something significant will happen at 9 a.m. PT on January 8. This timing is particularly noteworthy as it marks exactly five years since “Drivers License” debuted in 2021. Additionally, the form pays homage to the release of Rodrigo’s first album, Sour, with the “file number” listed as “05212021.”
Reflecting on Five Years of Success
It’s hard to believe that it has been five years since Olivia Rodrigo became a global sensation with “Drivers License.” The track debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and held onto the top spot for eight weeks. Rodrigo also achieved her second No. 1 hit with “Good 4 U” in May 2021, coinciding with the release of her critically acclaimed album, Sour, which topped the Billboard 200 chart for five weeks.
Future Prospects
In 2022, Rodrigo won significant accolades, including Best Pop Vocal Album for Sour and Best Pop Solo Performance for its lead single. Since the release of her latest album, Guts, in 2023, fans have been eager for new material in 2025, but Rodrigo has yet to unveil fresh songs since the deluxe version of Guts added five tracks in March 2024.
Musical Endeavors
On December 5, Rodrigo released a live album titled Live from Glastonbury (A BBC Recording). Despite the gaps between releases, she remains active in songwriting. “Writing songs is really therapeutic for me, so I’m always noodling around making stuff even when I’m not in the studio making an album,” she revealed to Billboard in 2024 during her Guts World Tour, which concluded the following summer. “I’m trying not to put too much pressure on anything right now.”
