Lizzo responds to critics

Published by on: 12/14/2022

‘I feel like y’all don’t understand me, y’all don’t know where I came from…’

Lizzo at the Met Gala
In a recent interview, Lizzo stated her music is for everyone and that the colour of your Skin doesn’t matter.

The singer went on to discuss what she see’s as an inherent problem in the world of Pop music and the stereotypes that some people seem determined to hang on to.

“In this day and age, why is it even an issue anymore ” – Lizzo

In an upcoming documentary on HBO, the star talks about being bullied at school and, as a result, kept her musical tastes hidden for fear of appearing ‘too white’. Not only was her taste in music criticised so was the way she dressed. Referring to her style of wearing bell bottom flares with embroidery down the front – she was teased for looking like a Hippie and asked why she wanted to look like a white girl. Tired of being asked dumb questions about the issue of race in music, Lizzo says she is done with the whole subject and wants the focus to be kept on her music. You can see more of Lizzo on HBO and hear her music on Hot100
